How to teach your children to eat healthy
Are you a mother of a picky eater? Even an experienced mother goes through the tantrums of picky eaters at each age of the growing baby. Wish it was an easy job to be a mother. *sigh*
Eating habits of kids are the hot button in any mothers group. Bringing up a healthy child is every mother’s dream. As the kids grow you try to meet their nutritional needs with different recipes but it all goes in vain if they just refuse to eat. Forcing a child to eat healthy food leads in huge tantrums.
Trying to make kids eat will no more be a challenge now!!
Teach your kids to eat healthy food:
- Stick to a routine:
When it comes to any habit, following routine helps you make it happen. Develop a habit right from early years to follow a tummy timetable. You can never make them eat healthy course if they are famished. Keep it simple 3 main courses and in between healthy snacking with loads of fluids.
- Keep it a family meal:
Never offer your kids a different meal. When they reach the age of eating proper meals, keep the family meal in sync as it is a good habit. They will easily fall into the habit of eating what is on the table for the entire family. If you want them to eat right, surround them with the right choices.
- Add new food slowly:
A healthy platter has lot to offer. Adding pea, carrots or even the simplest things can be a challenge with a picky eater. Kids are phobic to foods and resist any change so you must introduce them to newer food slowly and may be offering them a story that it’s Superman favorite food.
- Let the kids cook:
Yes, indulging kids into a cooking routine is a good idea. Not a gas top cooking but a simple sandwich fixing or decking up a plate of fruit gives them choice and feel of what is right. Enjoy the meal they fixed and praise them for the decisions they made and the presentation.
- Treat them once in a while:
Kids love junk and treating them once in a while with a small portion of their favorite food. Take them to a supermarket and let them pick something off the shelf and advise them on what is right and why. Slowly your teaching will outweigh the wrong choices.
- Be creative:
Every mom needs to be creative. Make a smiley with the sauces or make the omelets in different shapes than a regular round one. Offer those fruits and veggies in star shapes and all.
- Don’t be fussy:
This is the most important point. You may at times need to bite your tongue. You do not like them fussy, and if you fuss over the eating habits, they turn more repulsive and will not adhere to what you say.
Be persuasive but not pushy!! Your job is to serve them well, stressing over it will not help. When they are surrounded continuously with right choices, right eating habits are bound to develop. Keep it easy for them with finger foods that are healthy and are served in a routine. Help them grow into to youth of good eating habits!!
