The answer is YES!

The name is Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty. Born in 1980 she belongs to Egypt. She is known to be probably the heaviest person.

Born as a 5 kg baby,at the age of 11 she started gaining weight and was detected with Thyroid. She had to leave school because of the laziness due to thyroid. At a point she was so over-weight that she could not walk and started to crawl. All this while she kept gaining weight and suffered a stroke when she was 300 kg. This stroke left her paralyzed. She continued gaining weight and by Feb, 2017 she weighed 500 kg (1102 lb).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The diseases which she suffers from include:

  • Hypertension
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Severe Lymphedema
  • Water retention
  • Type 2 diabetes

The aim behind giving you a brief about Eman is for you to know that Obesity is not only being over-weight but, there are various other diseases related to it, which attack your body.

Eman recently was brought to India for a Bariatric surgery aimed at bringing her weight from 500kg to less than 100kg, over a period of three to four years. Reports indicate that the surgery was a success as Eman lost about 120kgs post-surgery and now is in Dubai for further treatment.

Some of the lazy us would think Bariatric is the ultimate solution to massive weight loss while some, for those who have never heard of this science before, I bet the curiosity would lead you to Google!

Well, Bariatric is a surgery that is performed for weight loss. In this, the size of the stomach is reduced through gastric band or through removal of a portion of the stomach.

But guys, it isn’t so easy as it sounds.

One needs to monitor its diet, pre and post surgery.

So if you think just because you can’t control your diet, you could simply get the size of the stomach reduced so that the intake of food lessens, forget bariatric, no technological innovation would provide you with the simplest solution.

Taking Eman’s pre surgery diet in consideration, you’ll be in shock.

In order to perform Bariatric Surgery, doctors regulated Eman’s diet from January 2017.

Her diet mainly included high protein, low carb diet solid diet comprising of chicken, fish and dairy.

In February, she was kept on a liquid diet which was again high protein including protein supplements, fiber supplements and skimmed milk.

Now can you imagine a person weighing approximately 500kg being kept on a diet as little as 1100-1200 calories?

Sounds extreme but its true.

While its just not the diet that was put on regulation, Enam was also undergoing Physiotherapy sessions where doctors aimed to improve her mass movement since she hadn’t walked since two decades.

It would surprise you that doctors aimed to reduce her weight by 50 kg but attained a weight loss of 110kg approximately. Surely she was under great guidance but not to forget that her willpower too made her achieve the target.

This case is the best example for all of us to learn.

But don’t you think if certain steps were being taken at the right time, we could prevent obesity from killing us?

What to do if you are obese and this restricts your body movement? What to do if you are lazy because you are obese? What to do if you cannot go for rigorous weight loss exercises?

  1. Simple Body Movements

    -If you are bedridden and gaining weight, start with some simple exercises like:

    1. Rotating your wrists clockwise and anti-clockwise.
    2. Lifting your hands up and then slowly bringing them down.
    3. Stretching your arm straight and folding to touch your shoulder.
    4. Rotating your feet in clockwise and anti-clockwise direction.
    5. Stretching your legs and then folding them so that your feet touch your thigh.

 

  1. Walk

    -If you are over-weight and can’t walk for long distance, try these:

    1. Walk in your Bedroom or Living room and sit when you are tired.
    2. Start walking in your balcony or the terrace or the garden, you’ll get fresh air.
    3. Start to walk on a treadmill at a very slow pace but remember to maintain the right posture.
    4. Slowly increase the time of your walk over time. Walk, don’t run.
    5. Take rest when you feel tired so that you don’t over exhaust yourself.

 

  1. Yoga

    • Try some simple yoga positions.
