Are sugar free tablets good for health?
It is a very common fact that one should remove sugar from his diet to lose weight naturally.But some people have so much craze for sweet that they cannot leave sugar completely and choose artificial sweeteners instead of direct sugar. Sugar free tablets are one of such artificial sweeteners.
Most of the people take this tablets by replacing white sugar thinking they are safe.But are they really safe for our health?
It is true that they offer the same sweetness to our food and drinks without adding any extra calories to our body thereby helping us in reducing our weight.For example,on taking 12-ounce can sweetened soda you add about 150 calories to your body,while on the other side, same amount of diet soda would add zero calories.Thus, it helps in fighting obesity, diabetes, and other risk factors for heart disease. This is good for those who want to shed some weights as removing sugar from your diet helps in lowering calories. The less the calorie intake, less building up weight.
But these artificial sweeteners come with its own side effects.
Sugar free tablets are made from sucralose, or aspartame, both are a derivative of sugar.It has been proved by researchers that sucralose is as bad as sugar.
Some of the side effects from prolonged use of sugar free tablets are as follows:

- Sleep problems
- Memory problems
- Cholesterol problems
- Increase in fluid level in body

- Decreases the red blood cell count
- Bad effects on thyroxine level.
- Associated with gastrointestinal problems,migraines,some respiratory problems, seizures etc.
- For a diabetic person,taking too much of these artificial sweeteners is bad as it may bring drastic change in insulin levels thereby creating fluctuation in blood pressure.
These artificial sweeteners also bring a change in the way we taste our food.They are more potent than table sugar and high fructose corn syrup.A small amount of artificial sweetener produces high amount of sweetness.Due to this our sugar receptors get over stimulated. People who use this artificial sweetener regularly tend to find foods with less sugar like fruits and other nutritious foods, quite inedible.In other words, it may create an addiction to artificial flavored foods with less nutritional value.
Researchers find that regular use of this sweeteners may prevent people from associating sweetness with calorie intake. They will start craving for sweet food over nutritious food,thereby gaining weight.
So, it is always advisable to avoid as much as possible these artificial sweeteners or otherwise, if it is not possible to avoid completely then you can take this in moderate amount. Now-a-days many other sugar substitutes instead of this sugar free tablets have been approved by FDA like stevia (made from leaves of stevia plant), tagatose, coconut palm sugar and many more.
